Personal Injury Protection – What Is It?
Personal Injury Protection (PIP) is part of your automobile insurance policy and is a type of no-fault insurance. Each person who has PIP will receive $2,500 (more if you choose), regardless of fault. This means if you are in an accident and you have PIP coverage then you will automatically be eligible to receive $2,500, or whatever amount of coverage you selected when you purchased your policy. The good news is you can also add PIP to your policy anytime.
You can use PIP to help pay for medical bills, hospital bills, and any costs not covered by your health insurance company if you are injured in an auto accident. Most insurance companies offer PIP automatically and you must check a box if you decide not to have it, but I cannot stress enough how important it is to have it. Please review your policy or contact your insurance agent today and choose PIP if you don’t already have this valuable coverage, and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
